About Us
We are a small, friendly HROD team, working together to deliver an effective and efficient service to our customers across the breadth of HROD operations, in line with the University’s People and Culture Plan.
HROD colleagues work collaboratively and proactively with each other so that the collective service offer is recognised as being empowering, innovative and value for money; known for delivery, efficiency and instrumental in the achievement of University objectives.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for leading the University’s HROD function that is responsible for the delivery of efficient and cost-effective HROD transactional services to staff across the full employee lifecycle. You will manage a small team of HR&OD Assistants who form the operational HROD service offer. You will oversee the receipt of all work into the HROD inbox and other key contact channels and ensure that the HR&OD service responds to customer requests in line with our HR&OD Target Operating Model.
You will establish new ways of working, processes and procedures so that the HROD Service Team provides a customer-focused service to all stakeholders across the University.
About You
You will have proven successful experience of working in an HR operational service at management level providing professional advice and support to managers. You will ideally be CIPD Level 7 qualified (level 5 essential) and have demonstrable success of working in partnership with middle and senior managers to deliver flexible HROD solutions.
This is a full-time interim role, fixed term for 6 months. You will be required to play a lead and expert role in supporting the HROD service in ensuring the provision of professional HR advice to the University.
You will work in partnership with customers and other stakeholders to understand their business challenges, goals and people requirements in order to deliver effective, innovative and pragmatic solutions. In conjunction with the wider HROD team, you will provide professional advice, guidance, coaching and support in the application of the University’s HROD policies and procedures, as well as supporting organisational development programmes and leading on the University’s Staff Wellbeing Strategy and plan.
Minimum Qualifications
You will have a strong knowledge of current UK employment legislation and relevant case law, with a track record of application and significant experience of complex case management at both formal and informal stages. You will be skilled in working in partnership with representative bodies and trade unions. You will be CIPD qualified to level 7.

Flexible, hybrid working is available with some presence on our beautiful city centre York campus as determined by business need, although a minimum of one day per week on campus is required.
