We have a great opportunity for a GP assistant to join a great team in Nottingham. You will be working within a forward-thinking Service, as part of a fantastic team with a wide range of great benefits.
The post holder will help the GP/clinical team liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s). They will carry out the administration elements of clinical audits, working alongside the Lead GP to ensure completion and dissemination of results. Support with ensuring clinical compliance and governance alongside the practice team.
Responsibilities:
1. Completing administrative tasks, combined in some areas with basic clinical duties such as monitoring patient vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy, immunisations, wound care.
2. Sort all clinical post and prioritize for the GP/clinical team in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
3. Extract all information from clinical letters that needs coding and add to notes according to agreed protocols.
4. Review laboratory results and action according to agreed protocols.
5. Arrange appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-up appointments of patients.
6. Proactively contact patients to arrange appointments or follow-ups.
7. Complete basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
8. Help the GP/clinical team liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
9. Carry out the administration elements of clinical audits, working alongside the Lead GP to ensure completion and dissemination of results.
10. Support with ensuring clinical compliance and governance alongside the practice team.
11. Attend and contribute to various internal and external meetings as requested.
12. Ensure good working relationships with all clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure the smooth running of the service, reporting any problems encountered to the relevant person.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Reception or customer care experience is essential.
2. Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
3. Well-presented and PC skills – ability to use basic Word, Excel, and email.
4. Ability to work within processes/procedures and be personable, polite, and patient.
5. Empathy with patients, ability to remain calm in fraught circumstances, maintain confidentiality, and data security.
6. Apply common sense when dealing with situations that do not fit the norm, be adaptable and comfortable with changing priorities.
7. Flexible to work different shifts as required, a team player with an understanding of confidentiality and the ability to use own judgment.
