Key duties and responsibilities
Assist the Head of Electrics and Deputy Head of Electrics in providing electrical and stage lights services for all performances, concerts, and other activities as required.
Ensure the building electrical installation is maintained to a safe standard.
Health and Safety
Assist with the implementation and operation of the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and Emergency Procedures at the theatre.
Maintain the fire alarm system, conducting regular tests and investigating faulty detectors.
Comply with method controls laid out in the theatre’s risk assessments.
Ensure health and safety equipment and PPE are used correctly and report defects.
Maintain all electrical equipment to a high standard and ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations.
Building
Assist in ensuring that the electrical installation is in good order and report deficiencies.
Maintain good standards of housekeeping throughout the building.
Carry out maintenance work as required by the Theatre Manager or Head/Deputy Head of Electrics.
Conduct lamp replacement rounds as required.
Production
Work with the visiting Company and Stage Management to ensure effective communication and running of the production.
Maintain the Production to the highest technical standards.
Be familiar with the cues of each electrics track in the production.
Operate the lighting desk and provide cover for performance electricians when required.
Assist in transporting equipment, set, and lights during get ins/outs of productions.
Staff
Assist in ensuring performance staff are conversant with their duties.
Supervise performance staff in the absence of the Head and Deputy Head of Electrics.
General
Take responsibility for the department in the absence of a Head or Deputy Head of Electrics.
Complete relevant training as requested by the company.
Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Theatre Manager or Head/Deputy Head of Electrics.
Person specification
Essential
Experience of working as a theatre electrician.
Experience of operating a lighting desk.
Understanding of health and safety.
A flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Works calmly under pressure.
Strong communication skills.
Desirable
Relevant electrical skills and qualifications.
First aid qualification.
Knowledge of current Health and Safety standards.
IOSH Working Safely.
Working at Height trained.
