Service Manager - Theatre Services, Anaesthetic, Critical Care
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Scheduled Care Directorate within Hywel Dda University Health Board.
This essential post administratively and practically supports the portfolio of Theatre Services, Anaesthetics, Critical Care, Pre-Assessment and Waiting List in its day-to-day operational context, and in strategic planning for ongoing activity, process, environment, and equipment. The portfolio covers service provision across all HB hospital locations and the ability to travel regularly across the sites is essential.
The portfolio consists of 28 theatres across 5 locations: ICUs, Pre-Assessment and Waiting List provision across 4 locations; with the related multidisciplinary staff group and budget.
The role interfaces across all Health Board disciplines and teams and is essential in the provision of the infrastructure, estate, staff groups and process within which surgery and critical care pathways and targets are delivered.
Main duties of the job
The role is part of a team working to the SDM; and whilst all staff have a primary part of the portfolio, all have some insight and involvement across all areas. This role is aligned to Theatre Services. The responsibilities include:
1. Daily overview of theatre activity, supporting troubleshooting as required.
2. Estate and equipment maintenance, upkeep, and purchase.
3. Governance through supporting of Datix / Complaint management and Risk.
4. Consistency of approach to care provision through assurance that documentation is standardised and current, and compliant through NatSSIPS for Theatres and GPICs for Critical Care.
5. Co-ordinating and supporting meetings related to the portfolio and supporting data capture.
The post is full time and provides extensive opportunities to lead on service improvement projects to ensure that budget, performance and strategic requirements are met.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; and English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of experience
* Masters level qualification or evidence of CPD to master level
* Recent exposure to relevant management or leadership development programme
* Clear understanding of the factors critical to the provision of health care, e.g. NHS strategies and policies, local health economy issues, the national performance management framework, financial flows, national initiatives for achieving improved performance etc.
* Leadership or Management Qualifications
Experience
* Proven NHS experience at managerial level
* Working as part of multi-professional team
* Experience of managing and completing programmes of continuous improvement and change management in a complex environment
* Experience of conducting negotiations relating to detailed matters
* Experience of managing staff and working with staff trade unions/staff representatives
* Proven track record of staff and budget management
* Experience of undertaking service planning taking into account complex and multistranded information, i.e. finance, workforce, clinical equipment and organisational factors
* Experience in the management of clinical teams
* Experience in project Management methodologies.
