The Business Analyst is responsible for investigating and analysing different aspects of the force’s business activities, recommending changes to make those activities more efficient, and coordinating the implementation of those changes. Also responsible for identifying where and how automation could improve existing business processes, and for managing the implementation of that automation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Serve as the conduit between the business users across the force and the technical staff in the ICT department and associated external organisations.
* Liaise with managers and users of existing systems to understand the business requirements and the existing business processes and procedures.
* Coordinate their planned work with the Force’s overall business improvement plan created by the Corporate Support Department.
* Identify areas for improvement by analysing the existing processes, discussing the requirements with management and operators, and comparing the business processes with those used in other organisations.
* Recommend improvements to business processes to cut out unnecessary steps, remove duplicated or wasted effort and reduce the time and effort needed to complete those processes.
* In conjunction with the ICT department and suppliers of IT systems, specify and document the IT solutions needed to automate business processes.
* Manage the projects to implement changes to business processes and any associated automation of business processes.
* Document and enumerate the outcome and the resources used before and after the proposed changes and automation of business processes.
* Supervise and coordinate the work of the team assigned to each of the projects.
* Undertake all responsibilities relating to information management, data quality, information sharing, intelligence and information security in accordance with the ACPO Guidance on the Management of Police Information in order to achieve compliance with the Statutory Code of Practice.
Qualifications:
* A degree or equivalent qualification in computing or related subjects, although other degrees, and equivalent work experience will be considered.
* Possess a full clean driving licence on appointment.
Knowledge:
* An in-depth knowledge of IT applications and capabilities, particularly Business Process Management software used to help automate business processes.
Experience:
* Project management experience to allow them to manage the projects required to implement their recommendations.
Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, staff and technical specialists inside and outside the force.
* Proven business analysis skills: the post holder must be able to demonstrate an extensive track record in the analysis, automation and improvement of business processes in a large and diverse organisation.
* Strong analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into process maps and specifications.
