Scope of Work:
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing and delivering accurate cost estimates for a variety of rail infrastructure projects, including:
1. Railway Drainage
2. Minor Geotechnical Works
3. Minor Permanent Way (PWay) Works, such as Under Track Crossings (UTXs) and wet bed removals
4. Station Platform Works
5. Off-Track Works
Key Responsibilities:
6. Cost Estimation: Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for rail civil engineering projects.
7. Utilize industry knowledge and historical data to ensure estimates are realistic and competitive
8. Project Analysis: Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to identify potential cost impacts
9. Conduct site visits as necessary to gather information and validate project scope
10. Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to clarify project requirements and ensure alignment on scope and costs.
11. Present and justify cost estimates to senior management and clients
12. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive estimate reports, including detailed breakdowns of costs and assumptions
13. Maintain organized records of all estimates and related documents for future reference and audits
14. Collaboration: Work closely with the project team to develop efficient and cost-effective project plans
15. Participate in project meetings and contribute to the development of project strategies
16. Market Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions.
17. Conduct risk assessments and incorporate contingency plans in estimates
Requirements:
18. Experience: Demonstrable experience in rail civils estimating is essential
19. Skills: Excellent communication and numeracy skills
20. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
21. Ability to command respect and integrate into a professional and friendly team environment
22. Mobility: Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel as required for site visits and client meetings
23. Location and Availability: Must be able to work from the Welwyn Garden City office at least three days a week
24. Preference will be given to candidates based in the London/Home Counties/South East area to ensure ease of commuting and availability for in-office collaboration
