Job Summary The Senior DevOps Engineer works to accelerate and automate the deployment of applications within production environments and ensures the continual improvement of all systems and processes that go into providing a robust and reliable SaaS product. They will be expected to understand the systems that they manage to a high technical degree and possess the ability to research any required topic to gain the information and confidence needed to complete a project. The ideal candidate will be a passionate technologist with demonstrable skills in Linux and cloud systems. They will be a proactive problem solver with a passion for automating and optimizing systems to ensure that increasing demand can be met as the business grows. They will also be responsible for administering and maintaining the existing cloud infrastructure and production systems to ensure that customers do not have any issues. They must have excellent attention to detail, a strong desire to learn, passion, and the ability to know the right tool for the right job. They will also mentor junior team members and ensure that all work is completed to a high standard. Key Responsibilities · Research and recommend ways to improve automation, ease configuration, and reduce human error. · Monitor, maintain, and optimise all aspects of our cloud infrastructure, and ensure service uptime, quality, monitoring, and reliability. · Create and maintain system documentation and runbooks. · Implement and maintain security practices and ensure that systems are secure against threats. · Contribute expertise to identify options, risk, and potential operational issues. · Manage the installation and configuration of solutions. · Collaborate with development teams to ensure applications are designed for and deployed smoothly in a cloud environment. · Deploy and configure software applications and administer production systems. · Monitor and troubleshoot system performance and security issues. · Create and maintain documentation of known service issues and subsequent resolutions. · Ensure high availability and scalability of our production environments. · Constantly seek to improve by researching, developing, learning, and keeping up to date with industry best practice and emerging technologies. · Mentor and supervise junior team members. · Some OOH work will be required to maintain and upgrade production systems and to monitor the OOH critical ticket rota. Qualifications and Experience – Essential A degree or a specific set of credentials is not essential, but we do expect candidates to have a strong background in systems administration and DevOps with 5 years of commercial experience. Essential: · Degree (BSc or BEng), or equivalent professional experience, in engineering, information technology, telecommunications, computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. · Good experience with DevOps engineering and team collaboration. · Good experience in scripting, such as Python. · Experience of system administration, design, support, and management. · Experience of installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Linux servers. · Strong proficiency in the administration and scripting of Linux operating systems, preferably Red Hat. · Extensive cloud platform experience, ideally with AWS and/or Azure. · Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes. · Hands-on experience with SQL database technologies, ideally PostgreSQL. · Self-motivation with the ability to independently research information on any topic. · Solid understanding of networking, security, and system monitoring · A strong desire to improve, innovate, and keep up with the latest technologies. · Comfortable working in a collaborative and openly communicative environment. · Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
