We have opportunities for band 5 radiographers who put patients at the heart of their practice and want to develop in busy, friendly departments. If you are enthusiastic and hard working then the Imaging Departments at this busy Acute Teaching Foundation Trust are the place for you.
You must demonstrate high standards of radiography, organisation and patient care. The main work area is within the Main X-Ray at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District and General Hospitals. You would be working a combination of shifts including long days, nights and weekends in a rotation through all aspects of Plain film including theatres. There will be opportunities to gain experience in other imaging modalities including CT and Nuclear medicine, with the possibility of advanced training in these.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a proficient, valuable, and reliable member of the Diagnostic Imaging team. This involves providing high-quality radiographic images while working on rotation through the main imaging areas of the department. Additionally, it includes offering a mobile service to the wards and theatres.
The Trust has recently made significant investments in a variety of new equipment across all imaging modalities. With access to all imaging specialties on-site and the opportunity to undertake advanced practice, our Trust is an ideal place for pursuing and advancing your career in radiography.
Radiology operates a 24/7 diagnostic imaging service to the Trust, and you would be expected to participate in a work system that supports this essential service.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
* Be responsible for the delivery and coordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, and supervision of duties carried out by Assistant Practitioners, and more junior staff including students
* Ensure a high radiographic standard is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.
* Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
* Assist in setting, monitoring and maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
* Communicate with patients, relatives, and other healthcare workers to ensure appropriate dissemination of information, in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating.
* Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
* Ensure environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
* Participate in education and training of junior staff
* Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within the scope of role and professional practice.
* Comply with the requirements of the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and IR(ME)R 2018 and related departmental protocols and procedures.
* Use Information Technology systems as required at every level of the role
Person specification
Qualifications & Education
* DCR/BSc Diagnostic Radiography OR Student Radiographer due to qualify within 9 months
* HCPC Registered or student due to be registered within 9 months
* Attendance at study days
* Experience in acute NHS hospital setting
* Evidence of relevant and up-to-date CPD
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience in general radiographic and screening procedures
* Involvement with QA.
* Willing to expand clinical role
* Awareness of changes within Imaging practice
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice.
* Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and importance to practice
* Evidence of ability to maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate importance to role
