WATFORD GRAMMAR SCHOOL FOR BOYS
A leading UK State School for boys aged 11-18 with a national reputation for academic excellence 'An outstanding school' - OFSTED 2021
Peripatetic Singing Teacher
Required for April 2025 2024/2025
Salary: £34.42 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay).
Peripatetic teachers are eligible for the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS). An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced vocal tutor to join our outstanding team of sixteen peripatetic instrumental tutors within the specialist facilities of the Clarendon Muse here at Watford Grammar School for Boys. We are currently seeking a singing teacher to initially cover the summer term of some current pupils (approximately 5 hours) whilst a current teacher is undertaking professional work. There will be scope for further singing pupils from September 2025, and additional LAMDA students should the singing teacher wish to teach this. With 22 practice rooms in the department, there is flexibility for the successful candidate to choose their preferred day and working pattern. If a candidate has a second instrument, there may also be further scope to expand their hours here.
You will be joining a dynamic and thriving department where Music is valued and at the heart of the school’s culture. Indeed, 10% of boys gain a place at Watford Boys each year through musical aptitude. There is a sizeable co-curricular programme of music ensembles every week including a Big Band, Junior and Senior Orchestras, Junior, Senior and Chamber Choirs, Intermediate and Senior Wind Bands, a Brass Band and Ensemble, an annual Musical Theatre production in our specialist James Theatre alongside a number of smaller chamber ensembles and Pop/Rock bands. GCSE and A-Level Music numbers and results are excellent, and each year, students leave to pursue Music at top universities and conservatoires.
Students across Years 7-13 can take peripatetic lessons across the full range of instruments (orchestral, popular and vocal) and take graded exams and diplomas each term across all exam boards (we are also an ABRSM and LAMDA accredited centre).
