Job Title: Teaching Assistant - SEMH/ASC/ADHD Support
Location: Poole, Dorset
We are excited to offer a full-time opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant at a well-regarded SEND school in Poole. Our school is dedicated to providing exceptional education and support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The successful candidate will be starting ASAP, becoming part of a passionate team committed to creating a nurturing learning environment. The role includes both 1:1 support for individual students and whole class assistance, demanding a versatile and compassionate approach to education.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored support to students with SEMH, ASC, and ADHD, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
2. Work closely with teachers and other support staff to implement educational and behavioral plans.
3. Facilitate a positive learning environment, adapting to the individual needs of each student.
4. Assist with the preparation of materials and resources required for lessons and activities.
5. Monitor and support the progress of pupils, providing feedback to teachers and caregivers as needed.
6. Help manage classroom behavior, using appropriate strategies to promote positive conduct.
7. Encourage pupils’ confidence, self-esteem, and independence.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
1. Previous experience in a SEND setting, with specific knowledge of SEMH, ASC, and ADHD.
2. A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to teaching and supporting children with additional needs.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
4. The ability to manage challenging behavior constructively.
5. NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent, or relevant degree is highly preferable.
