CPO Deck (Bosun)
Responsible to: Chief Officer
Reporting officer: Chief Officer
Works closely with: Chief Officer, CPO Science, Principal Scientist & Scientific staff working on deck, Officer in charge of deck operations, Deck Officer of the Watch
Purpose
* Management of the Deck ratings under the Chief Officer’s direction.
* Maintenance of the ship’s fabric under the Chief Officer’s direction.
* Safe operation of all deck equipment.
* Safe and efficient undertaking of cargo and boating operations.
* General duties of an Able Seafarer as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
In conjunction with the Chief Officer:
* Oversee safe operations for deck activities in accordance with the Ship Safety Management System.
* Management of the deck ratings in the efficient execution of orders and duties.
* Supervise and carry out planned maintenance as directed within the planned maintenance system.
* Identify, undertake and report corrective maintenance tasks.
* Report defects in a timely manner.
* Inventory management and ordering of spares and consumables for the Deck department.
* Ensure a high level of shipboard cleanliness both inside and out.
* Undertake cargo operations; managing the safe loading, stowing, lashing, securing and discharging of cargo, scientific equipment and stores.
* Participate in the preparation, launch, operation and recovery of boats.
* Organise and participate in watch-keeping duties in port.
* Organise the rota for bridge watch-keeping duties at sea.
* Organise and assist in mooring and anchoring duties as required.
In conjunction with the deck officer or CPO Science in charge of science deck operations:
* Oversee safe operation of scientific winches, gantries and lifting appliances.
* Assist the scientific staff in the safe rigging, deployment, recovery and stowage of scientific equipment.
* Deputise for an officer or CPO Science (Science Bosun) on deck during lengthy scientific operations or as required.
To undertake any other duties consistent with the key responsibilities and duties of the post, as directed by the Ship Master.

Pay: £34,496.00-£41,534.00 per year
