Job Description
Job Purpose:
To provide communication support for Deaf clients in the role of BSL Communication Support Worker at Our Deaf Hub, School of Sign Language Ltd, offering BSL interpreting and translation services for Deaf people in the community, including healthcare, accessing goods and services, housing, education, training, and employment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support Lead Wellbeing Officers through bilingual communication, including BSL and English, note-taking, language modification, and lip-speaking.
2. Work with Deaf employees to facilitate full participation and promote their social and emotional development.
3. Encourage and promote confidence and independence among Deaf employees.
4. Work independently, referring issues to Senior Management as needed.
5. Provide and respond to information from colleagues, management, and support personal development for Deaf employees studying or training.
6. Maintain accurate records of support activities via the PASS System and other internal systems.
7. Ensure Deaf employees maintain accurate records of their work, checking grammar and spelling for all communications.

Experience:

* Understanding of diverse learning and social needs, especially with communication difficulties.
* Experience supporting learning or social development.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with training provided if needed.
* Experience within the Deaf community.
Qualifications:
* 5 GCSEs A-C, including English and Maths.
* BSL Level 3 or fluent in BSL.
* Experience working with Deaf or disabled individuals, voluntary experience counts.
* Willingness to undertake Level 3 in Health & Social Care.
Specialist Knowledge and Skills:
* Excellent communication skills.
* Understanding of how Deaf people learn.
