Job summary Are you passionate about diabetes in paediatrics? We are looking for an experience paediatric dietitian looking to specialise in a diabetes post or an adult diabetes dietitian looking to move into paediatrics. This post can be a band 6/7 development role or band 7 depending on experience. This is a full-time post to work with the established, supportive paediatric diabetes team at University Hospitals Birmingham. Part time hours and/or a job share will be considered. The post involves being the lead dietitian for the paediatric diabetes team, working with inpatients and outpatients at Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals. You will co-ordinate the dietetic service for children with diabetes ensuring high levels of care in line with evidence based practice and national guidelines. You will provide structured education to those newly diagnosed and be responsible for regular service reviews through audit and patient feedback to improve patient care. The post holder will support the paediatric dietetic team leader, deputising in their absence. You should have excellent interpersonal & time management skills together with an ability to be flexible and a commitment to teamwork. You will participate in student training and staff development programmes. The department offers excellent training and development opportunities, and you will be supported by a large progressive Dietetic department. Applicants must be prepared to participate in 7 day working, as required. Main duties of the job The post holder will be the lead dietetic specialist for paediatric diabetes within UHB. To use specialist skills to effectively manage caseload, work priorities including service delivery, patient and professional demands. To be a source of expertise, to identify, analyse, evaluate and problem solve to enable the development and delivery of individualised intervention and treatment programmes in a variety of settings. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining appropriate records and data inputting. To provide leadership and management on a daily basis, including supervision, appraisal and development of junior staff. To be involved in recruitment process as appropriate. To supervise, educate and assess the performance of dietetic students To lead in service development, training and development of clinical practice in the area of paediatric dietetic diabetes.
