The Role
We are looking to recruit a Biomedical Scientist to join the Biochemistry Team at University Hospital Wishaw!
The successful candidate will be required to:
* Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Biochemistry using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
* Provide advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales.
The candidate will be responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems.
The post holder will act as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training/supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
Contract type
Fixed-term or Secondment - 9 months / Band 6 / Full Time / 37 hours
What we'll need you to bring
* State registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory
* BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
* Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
* Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.
It would be great if you also have:
* Specialist diploma in Chemistry/Blood Science or evidence to demonstrate working towards completion
* Licentiate of the Institute of Biomedical Science
* Previous experience of working as a Biomedical Scientist in an NHS clinical laboratory environment
* Team working skills
* Good communication skills
* Good organisational skills
* Participate in Out of Hours Service
* Participate in late shifts when required
* Work at alternative acute site when required
