Position: Technical Officer - Plant Health and Seeds
Location: Heathrow Airport
Initially 5 months contract – IMMEDIATE START
Are you ready to play a crucial role in safeguarding plant health and seeds? Join our team as a Technical Officer and take charge of crucial responsibilities such as certification for export produce, surveillance for pests and diseases, and statutory inspection of imported plants. As a part of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in ensuring compliance with import regulations and contributing to the prevention of dangerous plant pests and diseases.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Certify for export - produce, plants, machinery, and ware potatoes after examination in accordance with specific country requirements.
2. Undertake General Quarantine Surveillance and specific annual and multi-annual surveys to monitor for quarantine and non-indigenous pests and diseases.
3. Conduct statutory assessments of imported plants, planting material, and plant produce to ensure compliance with import regulations.
4. Collect and submit soil samples as part of efforts to prevent the spread of dangerous plant pests and diseases.
5. Plan and schedule visits, assessments, and sample collections, utilizing a range of IT tools and systems.
Essential Requirements:
1. Proficiency in IT.
2. Strong verbal communication skills in English to effectively interact with farmers.
3. Physical fitness and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Requirements:
1. While agricultural/horticultural experience is desirable, full training will be provided.
2. Available to start immediately.
Additional Requirements:
1. Depending on location, the role may involve working in shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
2. Flexibility is key, as the role may require working in different locations and occasional overnight stays.
3. Access to a car for client visits, sample collection, and equipment transport is essential.
4. A Counter Terrorist Check may be necessary for some locations.

Monday to Friday 8.30 till 17:00
Salary:
£34,000 per year not subject to any additional shift allowances
