Formulation Chemist
The Darent Wax Company Ltd is a privately owned manufacturer and blender of specialist wax compounds. The company, founded in 1984, has a heritage that can be traced back to the 1880s through its subsidiary, Wilkins Campbell & Co Limited.
Due to ongoing expansion and a real desire to remain a market leader in technical service and product development, the company seeks to recruit a highly experienced and creative Formulation Chemist. This role will be based primarily at our South Darenth headquarters just off the M25 J3/M20 J1 but may involve some work-related travel.

Working alongside our existing, creative team of technicians, this role will be a cornerstone of our research & development efforts, helping shape the future of the products and services we offer.
Full time, permanent, site-based, 40hrs per week (30-minute unpaid lunch break), Monday to Friday, 08:30am to 5pm.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop new products and maintain profitable existing products to meet business requirements to agreed deadlines.
2. Identify and research new raw materials, applications & production processes.
3. Work closely with other technicians and project leaders on the formulation and research of new and existing products.
4. Apply scientific and formulation knowledge in problem-solving situations.
5. Provide updates on project progress, including regular communication with project leaders.
6. Provide technical advice, guidance & support for maintaining laboratory processes and equipment.
7. Meet required Production, Quality, EHS & Regulatory policies when formulating new products.
8. Ensure safe handling and material information is available for all incoming raw materials.
9. Support the creation and update of technical data for customers (e.g. Specifications, SDS/TDS, and Product Information).
10. Maintain technical files, both physical and electronic, in a logical, accessible format.
11. Interact collaboratively with other departments and individuals.
12. Provide guidance on the technical viability and compliance considerations of new products.
13. Develop an understanding of key sectors to support the commercial team on products and anticipated uses.
14. Ensure all formulation and sample requests are completed within agreed timeframes.
15. Support SHE (Safety, Health and Environmental) and Operations teams in carrying out COSHH risk assessments.
16. Provide the Technical Director and Commercial team with regular updates on development progress and performance reporting.
Ideally, the successful candidate will bring:
1. Practical/proactive problem-solving skills and flexibility to support a dynamic, customer-driven business.
2. Tenacity, thoroughness, determination, energy, and attention to detail.
3. Demonstrable advanced formulation experience in waxes, adhesives, emulsions, paints, inks, etc.
4. Demonstrable advanced experience identifying new raw materials, applications & production processes.
5. Advanced appreciation of technical documents, e.g. SDSs, ideally in a specialty chemical or solvents business.
6. Awareness of chemical legislation such as CLP, REACH, COSHH, and GHS.
7. Advanced awareness of GMP and cGMP.
8. Good knowledge of Microsoft and IT literacy, able to collate data from multiple sources into usable documentation.
9. Some experience of QC and analytical data handling.
10. Well organized, able to assimilate new information quickly, and take an innovative approach to solving complex queries.
11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, providing internal stakeholders with clear, concise information.
12. Creative, persuasive, goal-oriented, and able to follow specific processes and requirements.
13. Quality conscious and able to respond quickly to requests for information or support.
14. Team player and solution-oriented.
