Our client, a leading defence and security company, is currently seeking a Test Development Engineer to join their team on a contract basis for 12 months, working primarily from Glenrothes / Livingston, Scotland. Our client operates extensively across all domains: land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace, delivering defence solutions to the UK government and international customers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design of functional test equipment
2. Overseeing design quality and providing leadership to junior engineers
3. Documenting design specifications and conducting design reviews
4. Developing robust and reliable test hardware solutions
5. Collaborating with hardware and software engineers to agree system designs
6. Developing test hardware, software, and procedures to validate hardware operations
7. Supporting manufacturing with technical queries and issues
8. Managing the lifecycle and obsolescence of test hardware
9. Monitoring and reporting progress to supervisors and the development team
10. Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation
11. Adhering to company values, policies, and ethics codes
12. Applying IPDS Processes
13. Contributing to gate/design reviews and providing Test Development guidance
14. Engaging appropriate SMEs to support Test Development activities
15. Serving as the Test Engineering Lead for small/medium-scale programs
16. Acting as a key interface to external customers and suppliers
Job Requirements:
1. Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or a related subject
2. Experience in test software design
3. Knowledge of analogue and digital electronic circuit design
4. Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation
5. Experience in handing over and managing designs in production
6. Strong hardware troubleshooting skills
7. Proficiency in MS Office products
8. Good communication skills
9. Eligibility for MOD Security Clearance to a minimum of SC level
Highly Desirable Skills:
1. Significant test development experience in industry
2. Use of Mentor Graphics schematic entry and PCB layout tools
3. Understanding of common test architectures such as PXI/LXI
4. Knowledge of measurement uncertainty application in test design
5. Expertise with: NI LabVIEW, NI CVI, NI TestStand, and C#
6. Design of mixed signal circuits
7. Experience with high-speed serial networks
8. Understanding of RF electronics
9. Knowledge of power supply design
10. SC clearance
