Job Title: Senior Designer - Mechanical Hiring Demand : 15 Location: Barrow - Hybrid Contract length: 12 months Business Unit: Submarines Days on site: Hybrid 2-3 days per week or 2 days every 2 weeks subject to programme. Role Description A senior designer has a good understanding of design processes, tools, systems and techniques and applies these to all areas of design to good quality and schedule. They will design and develop solutions to common or well-articulated design situations, problems and issues whilst broadening their knowledge and submarines design experience. Core Duties Typical duties include (but are not limited to): • Design and develop solutions to a range of common design situations/problems. • Understand and apply a range of fundamental design processes, tools, systems and techniques. • Gain and expand knowledge and experience. • Apply a foundational understanding of how output management systems work e.g. OMS. • Develop and produce models, drawings and other design outputs consistent with the contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands (Delivery to time, quality and budget). • Operate and develop own skills within the functionality of the appropriate work. • Communicate with key stakeholders such as transversals, external Customers, operations teams and other functions where necessary • Perform self-verification of own tasks to ensure completeness and quality of information and to arrange checking of work by appropriate team members. • Answer Technical queries about their work within their level of knowledge and competency. • Work as a member of a multi-functional team created to accomplish tasks (e.g. Construction Engineering team, best practice team, etc.) • Begin to schedule own work to meet target time scales and budget demand using tools and techniques with guidance from their supervisor. • Continually seek ways to improve processes, toolsets, systems, techniques and the generic workplace. • Take an active role in high risk and high complexity tasks with low risk involvement, supported by the project leader or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications Knowledge: • Good understanding of design techniques, processes and approaches in a range of industrial situations. • Good knowledge in use of design tools and techniques, methods, company design standards and systems. • Works with a degree of technical autonomy, demonstrates a commitment to professional design engineering principles and values • Ability to develop and assist others (i.e. Apprentices) Skills: • A senior designer has the responsibility to coach designers and apprentices within the team. A senior designer shall be regular point of contact for personal, technical or schedule queries for designers/apprentices within the organisation, supporting them with project deliverables and delivery timescales. • When queries are raised a senior designer shall coach others to find a solution, then own the issue, and finally escalate if they are unable to resolve. Qualifications: • Typically on an IEng career path working towards chartership with a HNC/HND • Option working towards a degree or relevant experience within discipline Behaviours ?
