Job Purpose: To manage day to day operations at the environmental testing laboratory and plan and complete DVP testing programs on new automotive lighting products Key Responsibilities: Develop DVP test plans with customers. Lead discussions with customers to define the content and details of the test plans. Lead a team of environmental test engineers, plan the team’s daily activities and manage workload Plan efficient use of test facilities to execute test programs and complete testing activities on schedule. Manage environmental test lab and test equipment to ensure that calibration requirements are met and equipment functions correctly. Monitor testing activities to ensure compliance with customer test specifications. Analyse test results. Report to customers on progress and results of testing. Organise writing of test reports and review test reports before issuing to customers. Source suitable external test houses to perform testing activities for testing that cannot be conducted in house and manage testing at these suppliers. Required Skills & Experience Educated to degree/HND level in a relevant engineering or scientific subject with at least three year’s experience working in a Test Engineer role. Practical experience of operating climatic chambers, vibration test equipment, salt fog equipment and water spray equipment required. Self-motivated to produce high quality work and complete tasks within deadlines. Good team working and interpersonal skills required. Ability to plan and organise multiple test programs simultaneously. Good communication skills and the ability to discuss issues with customers and suppliers. Ability to understand and implement customer test specifications. Good knowledge of environmental and mechanical testing including temperature testing, humidity testing, corrosion testing, water spray testing, solar testing and vibration/mechanical shock tests. Preferred Skills & Experience Previous experience of testing automotive components (knowledge of VW, Mercedes, BMW or Ford test specifications advantageous). Knowledge of testing plastic components/ assemblies or electronic products (possibly LED’s)
