We have a current requirement for a lead electrical design engineer to join our design function based in Glasgow on a hybrid working basis. The role of the Principal Electrical Designer is to manage the production of discipline specific engineering design deliverables for a range of multi-disciplinary projects predominantly within the Water Industry. You will be involved in the project from initial scope development, through detailed design and supporting construction. This will require interface with other internal business streams to agree appropriate programmes, budgets and resourcing, such that each project can be delivered in a manner commensurate with its complexity and risk profile. Main duties and responsibilities Manage a team of Designers, working to achieve individual project design deliverables to meet the client needs. Competent in both LV & HV Designs Ensure that all design work within the team is completed in compliance with all WGM QA Policies, Procedures and Client Specifications as necessary. Build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external key contacts in order to maximise efficiencies and identify further opportunities. Provide technical support to all areas of the business where required. Lead and perform as key member of a highly efficient, multi-disciplinary design team. Attend site-based surveys to understand the needs of a given project, including meeting client representatives as well as gathering information and data to inform the optimum design solution. In conjunction with other disciplines on the project, manage detailed design tasks to client stage gate and approval specifications. Manage the production of design deliverables for specified projects alongside other team members and contribute technical guidance to projects as required. Check/Approve design packages produced by other designers. Present designs at internal review meetings and external client review meetings such as HAZOP’s and Technical Authority reviews. Support both team and personal Continuous Professional Development by demonstrating an awareness and understanding of advances or emergent technologies within your discipline. To submit all design work to relevant British Standards and client specifications. This includes adherence to all applicable guidance and regulations such as WiMES, CDM, DSEAR and Confined Space Regs Assist with the development of Designers and Graduate Designers knowledge and skillsets To be considered for this position you will have at least 3-5 years previous design experience within an electrical engineering or construction environment. The candidates previous experience should be within a senior level or managerial role, the candidate should Ideally have a knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and have a good level of commercial awareness, The candidate should have experience in leading a team and be able to manage and mentor junior members of the team. Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and other stakeholders is also essential for the role.
