Role: Energy Engineer - Building Services
Location: Hybrid, Cardiff
Salary: Up to £45,000 + Bonus

Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Energy Engineer to join our clients team, playing a key role in delivering innovative, low-carbon solutions for the built environment. This position requires a strong background in mechanical engineering and energy services, with a focus on optimising building performance, reducing carbon emissions, and improving energy efficiency across a variety of sectors.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in energy auditing, data analysis, and delivering decarbonisation strategies. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, advising clients on sustainability initiatives, compliance with industry standards, and implementing energy-saving measures. Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide strategic low-energy design advice, with a strong emphasis on passive design measures to enhance building efficiency.
2. Conduct Dynamic Thermal Modelling using IESVE software, including comfort analysis, natural ventilation airflow modelling, Building Regulations Part L assessments, and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).
3. Prepare Energy Assessments for submission to Local Authorities as part of planning applications.
4. Perform energy audits on both simple and complex buildings to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
5. Prepare Low and Zero Carbon (LZC) technology feasibility studies, evaluating the potential for renewable and low-carbon energy solutions.
6. Produce evidence requirements for BREEAM credits that require thermal modelling outputs, including assessments for natural ventilation potential, thermal comfort, energy use and carbon emissions reduction, energy monitoring, and low-carbon design.
7. Support senior team members in managing client relationships and working collaboratively with design teams.
8. Understand client needs, interpret project requirements, and confirm project briefs to ensure alignment with expectations.
9. Commit to supporting the company’s strategic sustainability policies and actively contribute to the internal environmental programme objectives.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Energy Engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering, energy efficiency, and sustainable building design. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Knowledge & Expertise:
1. Strong awareness of EU and UK energy and environmental regulations and directives.
2. Good knowledge of Photovoltaics (PV), Heat Pumps, and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technologies.
3. Understanding of sustainable building design principles and their impact on engineering solutions.
4. Mechanical engineering background, with expertise in:
5. HVAC systems
6. Building Management Systems (BMS)/Controls
7. Energy use in buildings
8. Energy and carbon benchmarking
9. Sound knowledge of building construction and the design process.
10. BEng, BSc, MEng, or MSc in a relevant sustainability or engineering discipline.
11. Accredited Low Carbon Consultant (LCC) or willingness to train for accreditation.
