Job summary
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is progressive airway disease associated with an important reduction in daily physical activity and psychological problems that contribute to the patient's disability & poor health-related quality of life. COPD prevalence within Doncaster is higher than the England average, with higher rate mortality and respiratory related admission than the rest of the UK.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation plays an essential role in the management of symptomatic patients with chronic respiratory conditions including COPD, by breaking the vicious circle of breathlessness-decreased activity-deconditioning-isolation. Indeed the main benefits of Pulmonary Rehab are to decrease breathlessness, improve exercise tolerance & health related quality of life in addition to reducing hospital admissions and exacerbations.
This exciting opportunity will see the successful candidate driving forward an expansion of our existing service through provision of a new community based pulmonary rehab offer developed in collaboration with local fitness and leisure organisations aimed at increasing access, uptake & completion rates while directly addressing health inequalities within Doncaster communities.
