An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist in the GI Oncology Unit. The post holder has a distinct level of responsibility to patients with Upper& Lower G.I tumours in providing a comprehensive specialist nursing service to the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, working within a team of advanced practice nurses.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and experienced, who enjoys patient contact and working in a multi-disciplinary environment to support the delivery of a quality service. You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, flexibility, reliability and have an organised approach to work.
Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for a dependable and highly adaptable individual who is able to work independently and has the ability to fit in quickly as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder has a distinct level of responsibility to patients with G.I tumours in providing a comprehensive specialist nursing service to the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, working within a team of advanced practice nurses. The post holder will work in conjunction with the existing Clinical Nurse SpecialistS and provide advanced nursing care to women and men with local and advanced G.I tumours
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To sustain a high quality specialist service for the patient, from diagnosis through all stages of the disease and actively provide optimum liaison and continuity of care.
2. In collaboration with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to formulate and/or revise relevant policies and to regularly review these following change/implementation. To work within the procedures and policies of the Trust.
3. In conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Specialists, to develop assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients with complex needs are referred to the appropriate specialist/s.
4. To initiate, run and evaluate appropriate group support in conjunction with other relevant professional disciplines.
5. In collaboration with the patient information services write new patient information and update existing patient information.

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
