General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. We are looking for a dedicated Archivist and Heritage Manager to preserve and enhance our collections. This engaging role is an opportunity to manage the RCGP’s archives, artwork, and collections whilst promoting the story of general practice to members and the public. In this role, you will deliver archive support and services, provide research, enquiry services and active outreach for member/public engagement, as well as manage and ensure long term conservation of artworks, museum collection and RCGP archives based both in 30 ES and offsite storage facilities. In addition to constitutional College records, our archive collections include records, personal papers and oral history recordings of both eminent and everyday GPs —offering a unique window into the story of general practice and the communities it serves. What You’ll Do To undertake acquisitions including negotiating the deposit of records with current owners. Oversee the process of donations to the College archives. Catalogue using Axiell CALM, following ISAD(G) guidelines. Bring archives and history of RCGP and general practice to life through online and in-person exhibitions, online content, talks, and publications. Assist researchers and members access to the archives, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. Develop the College’s digital archive in line with industry benchmarking, incorporating modern preservation techniques including AV and audio formats. Review and revise the Disaster Recovery plan, liaising with the provider in case of emergency You’ll need experience in heritage environments, with a strong grasp of archival policies and collection management. A Diploma/MA in Archive Administration (or equivalent experience) is required, along with a talent for public engagement and excellent communication skills.
