We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Health and Safety Business Partner to join our Transpennine account in Manchester - hybrid working.
Transpennine Amey is working in partnership with Network Rail on the Transpennine route upgrade project since 2018, focusing on providing reliable, frequent, faster, and greener railways to the North of England. Covering 76 miles of railway between Manchester, Leeds, York, Selby and onto Humberside, we aim to support Network Rail with cutting carbon emissions and ensuring a smoother, more enjoyable journey for customers.
The Health and Safety Business Partner plays a critical role in ensuring our organisation meets its legal and regulatory obligations while driving innovation and excellence in health and safety. This role is key to upholding and advancing our core value: "Safety First, Always."
We are looking for a partner who will act as the health and safety conscience of the business, leading the development, implementation, and embedding of a world-class safety culture. This includes designing and maintaining robust systems to capture and analyse safety metrics, fostering a proactive approach to risk management, and setting new benchmarks in health and safety performance.

The standard hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week.
You will be responsible for:
* Develop Health & Safety Strategy: Align the health and safety strategy with group, business unit, and account objectives.
* Policy Implementation: Ensure the operational business effectively implements Amey’s mandated Health & Safety policies.
* Uphold Core Safety Values: Champion Amey’s "Safety First, Always" value by applying our Zero Code framework to minimise risks.
* Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with H&S legislation and industry best practices.
* Provide Escalation Support: Serve as the escalation point for complex queries from operational H&S Technicians and Managers.
* Lead Incident Investigations: Oversee incident investigations, ensuring preventive actions are implemented.
* Competence & Training: Ensure compliance with Amey’s competency framework and mandatory H&S training standards.
* Risk Control & Compliance: Contribute to the review of compulsory risk controls.
* Support Bidding Activities: Assist Business Unit bidding teams by incorporating Amey’s H&S strategy.
* Subject Matter Expertise: Provide expert H&S guidance in line with Regulation 7 of MHASAWR99.
* Drive Compliance & Improvement: Help operational directors formulate compliance and improvement plans.
* Commercial Focus: Act as a commercially aware partner, ensuring H&S practices support wider business objectives.
* Lead Cultural Change: Drive long-term cultural change through strategic planning of H&S activities.
We want to hear from you if you have:
* Proven Track Record of Innovation: Experience developing and implementing new working methods that improve Health & Safety.
* Strong Business Acumen: Understanding of the balance between operational efficiency and safety.
* Supported Comprehensive Assurance Programmes: Key role in developing assurance programmes.
* Industry-Specific Experience: Ideally, experience in construction or engineering, particularly within the rail sector.
* Relevant Professional Qualifications: Hold a ‘Level 6’ NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent), and are either a Chartered Member of IOSH or working towards this status.
