Job Summary: We are seeking an Advanced PharmacyTechnician to join our rotational team. The successful candidate will workacross various clinical areas including the dispensary, medicines managementservices (MMS), and the aseptic unit. This role is crucial in ensuring thesafe, effective, and timely delivery of pharmaceutical services to ourpatients.
Main duties of the job
KeyResponsibilities : Duties will include provision of clinical pharmacy services to avariety of medical/surgical specialties.
This will include assessing patients ownmedications, undertaking construction of
accurate drug histories,supplying required medications to assigned wards, preparing medications or discharge includingcounselling of patients.
Dispensary based duties to include accuracychecking on the ACT bench, dispensing medications for discharges and ensuringsupplies of medications are sent to the wards in a timely manner
This role will mainly involve supporting thedispensary in the morning with ACT and dispensing medications for discharges.In the afternoons the role will involve supporting the discharge team asneeded.

This role is crucial in ensuring the safe, effective, and timely delivery of pharmaceutical services to our patients.

Dispensary Services:
1. Interpret, label, assemble, and issue prescriptions accurately and promptly for inpatients, outpatients, and discharges.
2. Provide final accuracy checks on dispensed medications.
3. Counsel patients on their medications to enhance compliance and understanding.
4. Supervise and train pharmacy assistants, technicians, and trainee pharmacists.
Ward-Based Services :
5. Conduct comprehensive medication histories for patients on admission.
6. Ensure timely and accurate supply of medicines to patients during their stay and upon discharge.
7. Counsel patients and carers on medication usage prior to discharge.
8. Regularly review and manage ward stock to ensure adequate and appropriate supplies.
Aseptic Services :
9. Prepare and check aseptically prepared products, including cytotoxics and monoclonal antibodies, after completing in-house training.
10. Ensure compliance with national, regional, and departmental SOPs.
11. Supervise pharmacy assistants and trainee staff within the aseptic unit.
Key Working Relationships:
12. Collaborate with pharmacy staff, nursing staff, medical staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective service delivery.
13. Liaise with portering, transport, and drug company/wholesaler delivery drivers to facilitate the prompt receipt and delivery of medicines.
Risk Assessment:
14. Exposure to infections, bodily fluids, and noxious chemicals as part of the role.
15. Work within small-enclosed spaces and handle hazardous or sterile materials.
16. Provide patient counseling under emotionally distressing conditions.
Essential Requirements:
17. Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a pharmacy technician.
18. Experience in dispensing, ward-based services, and aseptic preparation.
19. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage workload and workflow effectively.
20. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Skills:
21. Previous experience in supervising and training junior staff.
22. Knowledge of the Trust's electronic systems (, Emis, Oasis, Bluespier).
23. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
