Job overview
Applications are invited for the role of Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics, specialising in Knee Arthroplasty and Trauma at the Royal Surrey Hospital. This is a 10 PA, substantive post. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have extensive experience in all aspects of knee surgery with a focus on reconstruction including osteotomy, arthroplasty and general trauma.
This post is based at the Royal Surrey County site in Guildford but it is expected there will be future opportunities to operate at the Regional Elective Centre in Ashford.
Candidates who wish to work a different number of programmed activities to that specified in the current job plan will be considered for this post, with negotiation on the content of the job plan on an individual basis. Candidates who wish to apply as part of a job share arrangement will also be considered.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take an active part in the teaching of junior medical staff, medical students and nursing staff and participate in postgraduate meetings, during theatre sessions/clinics and daily meetings. There will be opportunities to teach students at Surrey University Medical School. The post holder will also be required to participate in an audit.
The post holder will be expected to take an active part in the research programme of the Trust and the Region. They will participate with Consultant colleagues furthering the interests and reputation of the Orthopaedic Department and the Hospital.

This is a 10 PA post for an Orthopaedic Knee Consultant (Knee arthroplasty and trauma) based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Trauma & Orthopaedics via CCT (or within 6 months) or Portfolio Pathway
* MBBS or equivalent
* FRCS (Tr and Orth) or equivalent
Experience
* Dedicated Trauma Fellowship experience
* Significant time in an arthroplasty fellowship
* Management of Trauma & elective patients.
* Teaching of junior medical staff
* Extensive experience of lower limb surgery
* Extensive experience of lower limb outpatient management
* Experience of arthroplasty and trauma practice at consultant level
* Evidence of managing complex lower limb trauma surgery
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
