Job overview
This is an exciting post working with clinicians in NSFT and CGL within our drug and alcohol partnership. As part of this post you will provide specialist clinical assessment and intervention to service users with co-occurring mental health and drug/alcohol problems, and psychological consultation to teams working with these service users. You will help our drug and alcohol partnership with the design and delivery of system-wide training, and will be working with to create seamless and inclusive pathways between our local drug and alcohol service provider (Change Grow Live) and NSFT.
You will be part of a small group of clinicians within our trust specialising in drugs, alcohol and co-occurring conditions who meet regularly for peer supervision and support. You will be asked to host and organise a Clinical Network Meeting for those working with service users with drug and alcohol problems. This Clinical Network Meeting will bring clinicians together to reflect on and support each other around their work, and will host presentations which may be educational or reflective in nature. You will be supervised in your role by our Associate Chief Psychological Professions Officer in the Psychological Professions team.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide direct specialist clinical assessment and intervention to a small number of service users.
2. To help design and support the provision of psychologically-informed services and interventions by the wider workforce across the system.
3. To offer formulation, consultation and training to the wider system of providers, working with our other NSFT drug and alcohol specialists.
4. To work with our drug and alcohol partnership to create and deliver a needs-led programme of training for the wider system.
5. To work alongside our Improvement Operations Director on developing a joint working protocol and inclusive pathway between NSFT and our main provider of drug and alcohol services, CGL.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This job has been created to help deliver on the aims of community transformation, improve inclusion and access to mental health treatment for service users with drug and alcohol problems, and improve system-wide integrated working across a range of providers. You will work closely with our Drug and Alcohol Partnership as part of this role. In addition to clinical work, strategic work and training provision, we would be expecting the post-holder to take a proactive role in demonstrating outcomes and the value of this role to the system.
Previous consultant experience is desirable but not necessary. We welcome applications from suitable applicants who are currently in 8b roles but have the right clinical background and experience, and in that case a BPS national assessor will be on our interview panel to advise as to whether the interviewees meet national standards for consultant psychologist posts, and to identify any potential development needs. A lived experience interviewer will also be on our interview panel.

Experience
Essential criteria
* Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist for a minimum of six years.
* Experience of working with service users within the drug and alcohol services, or dual diagnosis.
* Experience of delivering teaching and training, and providing professional and clinical supervision.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of leading qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists.
* Management and leadership experience.
* Experience of working in, or closely with, our VCSE and non-NHS providers.
* Experience of training and supporting staff who do not have a formal training or a professional registration to deliver psychologically-informed and trauma-informed intervention.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Training in supervision of other psychologists.
* Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice in relation to service users in the designated specialty and mental health generally.
Desirable criteria
* Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist.
* Training in clinical psychology at postgraduate doctoral level, as accredited by the BPS (British Psychological Society) or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
* Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
