Job Summary:
As a Payroll Clerk, you will play a crucial role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. You will be responsible for managing employee data, processing payroll, and maintaining payroll records in compliance with company policies and government regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Payroll Processing: Accurately process weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll for all employees, including salaried and hourly staff.
* Employee Data Management: Maintain and update employee records, including wages, benefits, tax information, and deductions in the payroll system.
* Timekeeping: Review and verify timesheets, attendance records, and overtime requests for accuracy.
* Deductions and Benefits: Ensure correct calculations and deductions for taxes, pensions, benefits, and other withholdings.
* Compliance: Ensure payroll is processed in accordance with current legislation, including tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions.
* Reporting: Generate and submit payroll reports (e.g., monthly, quarterly, annual) to management and external agencies (e.g., HMRC).
* Issue Resolution: Address employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies and resolve any issues efficiently.
* Audits: Assist with internal and external payroll audits.
* New Starters & Leavers: Process new hires, terminations, and salary adjustments, ensuring accurate final payments.
* Confidentiality: Handle sensitive payroll information with the utmost confidentiality and discretion.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Previous experience in payroll or a similar finance role.
* Strong understanding of payroll processes and familiarity with Sage payroll software.
* Knowledge of payroll regulations and tax laws.
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Strong communication skills for handling employee queries.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Experience with Sage Payroll.
* Relevant certifications in payroll or accounting (e.g., AAT, CIPP).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
