Purpose of Position: Provides Respiratory Care to patients.
Description
1. Identifies acute and chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
2. Initiate and provide ventilatory support. Recommend appropriate ventilator settings, use lung protective strategies, appropriately wean the patient, monitor/troubleshoot the ventilator.
3. Use best practice and follow approved Therapist driven protocols, procedures, and department policies.
4. Perform diagnostic procedures such as ABG draws and sputum specimen collection.
5. Interpret ABG’s.
6. Perform bedside spirometry.
7. Perform capnography.
8. Working knowledge of monitors used on the units.
9. Monitor patient’s respiratory condition during transport within the hospital. Monitor patients’ respiratory condition during transport to other facilities as needed.
10. Attend Codes and RRT’s.
11. Assist with conscious sedations and intubations.
12. Administer therapeutic gases such as oxygen, Heliox, high flow oxygen therapy.
13. Assist with Bronchoscopies performed in the Bronch Suite/OR/floors/ER/ICU.
14. Assist in all treatment modalities used at FH to provide care to the neonatal and pediatric population.
15. Assesses tracheostomy, laryngectomy tubes.
16. Maintain the artificial airway. Perform naso-tracheal, endotracheal and tracheostomy suctioning.
17. Assists providers with tracheostomy tube changes.
18. Documents correct brand, size, cuffed or uncuffed, disposable or reusable inner cannulas on the EMR avatar.
19. Works in conjunction with nursing staff to provide trach care and tracheal suction.
20. Assess for and administer PEP, CPT, and all other airway clearance devices/methods.
21. Administer aerosolized/metered dose medications.
22. Assess for, administer, troubleshoot, and maintain non-invasive ventilation.
23. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to offer clinical expertise.
24. Provide accurate and complete documentation/charging in the EMR.
25. Perform charge reconciliation on all patients daily to ensure correct billing.
26. Interact with Providers and other staff in a positive and respectful manner.
27. Respond to requests in a timely manner.
28. Demonstrate excellent bedside manner.
29. Precept/train/orient other departments, students and Respiratory staff as required.
30. Maintain equipment, supplies, stock.
31. Attend seminars and educational programs to enhance professional growth and meet the needs of the patients served.
32. Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
33. Perform other work-related duties as requested/assigned.
Qualifications
* Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
* Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
* Massachusetts state licensure in Respiratory Therapy.
* Current BLS certification
* Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months of hire and maintain certification bi-annually.
* Minimum one-year critical care experience preferred.
