An opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking, motivated, woman-centred midwife with leadership and managerial skills to work as the Band 7 Antenatal Services Manager at South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced midwife, who is able to role model, lead by example and provide first line managerial support.
Our service provides Midwifery Led care as well as Consultant Led Obstetric services, ensuring personalised care to all women throughout their pregnancy and childbirth pathway.

* To manage the shift and have clinical responsibility for the area in line with the escalation policy to maintain patient safety and staff wellbeing.
* To provide clinical midwifery care to women within the Maternity services.
* To be an expert Clinical role model.
* To provide expert leadership and clinical advice to the Maternity Team.
* To develop an environment which supports the value of Midwifery Care.
* To act as an advocate for the women receiving care.
* Deliver high quality midwifery care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to provide the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
* Act as a champion for professional accountability and standards ensuring that professional practices are in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and Trust Policy.
* Ensure environmental standards and cleanliness of the ward/department/community team are maintained in line with Trust and National standards.
* Support and contribute to the development of patient care and midwifery practice within the Directorate. Supervising junior staff. Contribute to Trust wide projects as required.
* Ensure effective management of staff on shift and ensure they are supported in performing to their full potential. Ensure junior staff have appropriate support and supervision and are appropriately assessed.
* Participate in a 365 day 24/7 roster.
* Participate in the acute Midwifery on call roster.
* Comply with the Trust's vision, values and behavioural compact.
Person Specification
Experience
* 3 years post registration experience in Midwifery.
* Experience of managing change.
* Experience of change management.
* Thorough understanding of contemporary midwifery issues.
* Experience of leading a team.
* Evidence of innovation in practice.
* Experience of working at Band 7 and previous team management.
Qualifications
* Current NMC Registration (Level 1 Midwifery).
* Degree in Midwifery studies or healthcare related subject.
* Mentorship qualification/equivalent and or Practice Assessor training.
* Management and leadership training.
Physical Skills
* Highly developed physical skills to perform clinical aspects of the role, such as deliveries.
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
* Car driver with access to a car.
Skills & Knowledge
* Evidence of leadership qualities.
* Awareness of national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism.
* Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues.
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of Microsoft office packages.
* Evidence of competency in relation to midwifery practices appropriate to the post.
* Understanding of budget and financial control systems.
