Aim of the role:
The Registered Manager is someone who has been appointed by the Registered Provider, Champion Children Therapeutic Care Services, to take full-time, day-to-day control to carry on the management of the children’s home.
Requirements of the role:
1. Day to day responsibilities of the home:
o Care for Children - Enrich the lives of young people in our care, helping them create a positive future.
o Champion on behalf of the young people in the home to ensure that their voice is heard and their rights maintained.
o Provide leadership and management to all within the home.
o Manage the home in compliance with the ethos of Champion Children Therapeutic Care Services.
o Ensure that the Responsible Individual is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection.
o Manage the home to safeguard and promote the wellbeing of the children and young people.
o Participate in the management ‘On Call’ system.
o Manage relationships with all those involved in the young person’s life.
o Represent Champion Children Therapeutic Care Services within a multi-agency framework.
o Ensure that all serious events are notified, within 24 hours, to the appropriate people.
o Ensure all young people have written placement plans in place.
o Develop and maintain a “Children’s guide to the home”.
o Ensure effective monitoring and review of all records within the home.
o Ensure that all Medication is stored and administered in line with organisation and legal guidelines.
o Ensure the home offers a healthy, nutritious and balanced diet for all young people.
o Ensure events, appointments or meetings are arranged effectively.
o Protect the confidentiality of the children and young people and their families.
o Ensure the promotion of education, physical health and emotional well-being of the young people.
o Ensure provision is made to cater for the children’s and young people’s social, leisure, cultural and religious needs.
o Contribute to the referral, assessment and admission procedures.
o Manage time and resources within the home.
o Work with the Responsible Individual to contribute to the planning and development of the service.
2. Responsibility to work within the required standards of the Organisation and regulatory body/ies:
o Satisfy the legal fitness requirements and complete all checks required by Regulation 26 (Schedule 2).
o Maintain in depth and up to date knowledge of the Children’s Homes regulations and Quality Standards.
o Ensure all required standards are met.
o Be accountable to the Responsible Individual, Registered Provider and Ofsted.
o Work in accordance with Equality and Diversity legislation.
o Ensure Regulation 45 monitoring duties are carried out.
o Ensure that all policies and procedures are implemented fully.
o Ensure the health and safety of children, staff and visitors.
o Maintain a good working knowledge of National and local child protection procedure.
o Strive to ensure the home provides an OFSTED Outstanding standard of residential care.
3. Responsibilities of managing a team and work allocating:
o Manage the children’s home staff team: recruit, induct, manage and supervise staff.
o Participate in staff training as required.
o Organise and Operate an effective key worker system.
4. Responsibility for all aspects of the premises:
o Be responsible for ensuring the home provides a positive physical environment.
o Ensure that any repairs or damage to the property or belongings of the organisation are reported.
The Registered Manager role is full time post and they are expected to arrange their own work rota which may involve evening, weekend and sleeping-in duties.
Person Specification
Essential Experience:
* Minimum of 2 years in a management position within residential care of children in the last 5 years.
* Minimum of 1 year experience of line management/staff supervision of staff in a care role.
* Worked within Ofsted inspection framework.
Desirable Experience:
* Worked within a multidisciplinary framework.
* Therapeutic work with young people.
Essential Knowledge:
* Working knowledge of children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
* Understanding of local authority care planning duties.
* Demonstrable knowledge of current legislation and statutory guidance.
* Awareness and understanding of Ofsted inspection framework.
* Knowledge and understanding of the rights and entitlements of children and young people in care.
* Understanding of and an ability to respond positively to the needs of young people from different backgrounds.
Qualifications:
* QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services.
* Registered Managers Award/NVQ 4 in Health and Social Care and Management.
* Relevant management qualification (equivalent to the Level 5 Diploma).
