What’s the opportunity?
As a Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Smoothwall, you’ll play a crucial role in driving new business opportunities by identifying leads, reaching out to prospects, and supporting the sales team with administrative tasks. You will focus on generating interest and qualifying leads from our campaigns and existing client base, while following guidance from the Sales Director and Head of Sector Sales. You’ll be the first point of contact for many potential clients and help set the stage for new sales opportunities within the education sector.
Introduction: Majority office based for first 6 months - required. Normal working hours will be 9 - 5:30 in the office.
Here’s how you’ll do it:
1. Lead Generation and Qualification
o Identify and contact potential leads based on target criteria (e.g., MATs and schools not currently using our products).
o Qualify leads to determine interest and suitability, passing qualified leads to the appropriate sales representatives.
2. Support Sales Team Activities
o Assist the sales team with administrative duties to ensure smooth sales operations, including updating CRM, scheduling calls/meetings, and managing lead data.
o Follow up on leads generated through marketing campaigns and other sales initiatives, ensuring timely communication with prospects.
3. Campaign Outreach
o Call and email potential clients following marketing campaigns or sales initiatives, ensuring that messaging is consistent and effective.
o Ensure that outreach is completed within the specified time frames and that all relevant information is recorded.
4. Collaborative Sales Process
o Follow guidance and feedback from the Sales Director and Head of Sector Sales, adapting your approach to align with team objectives and company goals.
o Track your activities and progress to ensure alignment with overall sales targets.
o Offer new and creative ideas for campaigns and activities to maintain interest from the market.
o Work collaboratively with other SDRs to create a strong team morale and sense of pride for one another when tracking down a lead.
o Support Sales teams with following up on opportunities or quotes sent out to support lead conversion to pipeline.
o Gain a strong knowledge of our product offerings and associated legislation to drive meaningful and deep conversations.
o Offer support at conferences and events within the industry to generate leads and increase brand awareness.
o Act as an ambassador for Smoothwall in any communication, internal or external.
o Work collaboratively with the Channel & marketing teams to drive lead generation via all functions.
What will be my day to day responsibilities?
* Lead Generation & Qualification:
o Conduct outbound calls and emails to engage prospects and qualify their interest.
o Use provided sales scripts, email templates, and resources to initiate contact with potential leads.
o Support sales people in tracking down responses to quotes or opportunities that may have become dormant, where required.
* Conferences:
o Attend conferences and be a Smoothwall Champion, advocating for the brand, positioning yourself as an expert and generating leads.
o Follow up on interest generated at conferences and webinars to ensure a strong conversion ratio.
* Support Campaigns:
o Follow up with prospects who have shown interest in marketing campaigns and track their response.
o Ensure prospects are nurtured throughout the early stages of the sales funnel, providing consistent touchpoints and relevant information.
* CRM Management & Administration:
o Accurately log all lead interactions in the CRM system to ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy.
o Support the sales team with administrative tasks, such as preparing meeting materials, updating lead data, preparing presentations and managing scheduling.
* Reporting & Tracking:
o Regularly update your progress on lead generation, outreach efforts, and administrative support in line with sales team requirements.
o Report on activity and provide insights to the Sales Director and Head of Sector Sales for ongoing strategy adjustments.
* Creativity:
o Gain a strong understanding of the personas you are interacting with and their needs.
o Utilise this understanding to put forward creative ideas for new ways to generate leads, conferences we may benefit from attending, new angles to our pitches to ensure we are always finding new ways to engage our audience and generate leads.
* Team Work:
o You will be capable of working independently and thrive on working to personal targets whilst simultaneously working towards group targets and working in partnership with other SDRs and with the overall sales team.
o You will also work well as part of a team. Your efforts will be hugely rewarding for the team, filling up the pipeline & supporting lead conversion; sharing ideas, seeking guidance and advice, thriving on learning from your peers will be of great benefit in this role and is therefore an essential part of your responsibility.
* Cross Department engagement:
o You will work closely with Channel to support Partner activities, which will ultimately drive lead generation.
o You will work closely with the Marketing team to ensure campaigns have the best possible chance of success with a strong focus on timely follow up and a keen eye for feedback on where we can improve and what the data tells us.
What you will bring?
* Graduate-Level Education: A degree in any discipline (a background in business, marketing, or technology is a plus).
* Strong Communication Skills: The ability to communicate clearly and professionally via email and phone, with strong listening and questioning skills.
* Organizational Skills: You’ll be comfortable managing multiple tasks and deadlines at once, keeping your work and data well organized.
* Resilience and Motivation: The ability to stay focused, motivated, and driven in a role that requires consistent outreach and persistence.
* System Confidence: Comfort using CRM tools (experience with Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar tools is a plus but not a must) and a willingness to learn new sales technologies.
* Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately record and manage lead data, ensuring all information is up to date and easily accessible.
* Team Player: A collaborative mindset, willing to work closely with others and take feedback to improve performance.
* Self-Starter: Ability to work independently and proactively, taking ownership of your tasks and responsibilities.
