Job summary
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Upper GI diagnostic team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. We are looking for a Band 7 nurse ready to take on a new challenge in the role of a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) post. You will be joining an expert cancer multi-professional team. You will be responsible for offering expert clinical advice, emotional support and managing your own caseload of cancer patients and their pathway of care. You will be championing and delivering NHSE Cancer Personalised Care standards and ensuring issues associated with patients' experience are visible to the MDT and are a top quality priority for service improvement.
Main duties of the job
1. Fully comply with the trust Cancer CNS Standard Operational Policy and work towards meeting cancer nursing ACCEND framework competency.
2. Assist in the delivery of an expert specialist nursing service for people with suspected cancer and provide specialist nursing advice, clinical assessment and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis.
3. Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care.
4. Initiate and interpret tests and investigations used in cancer treatments, ongoing monitoring and late effects care.
5. Demonstrate sound knowledge of cancer and its treatment in relation to people living with and beyond cancer.
6. Manage symptoms for the consequences of cancer and its treatment.
7. Develop practice to be able to deliver nurse-led clinics supporting cancer patients' care and needs.
8. Support the team and organisation in delivering innovative services to support cancer patient access to the team and early diagnoses.
9. Assess and meet patients' ongoing care, health and wellbeing needs and develop a care plan and action referrals as a result.
10. Use data to identify high-risk individuals and groups and ensure that services meet their needs.
11. Support Self-Care, Self-Management and Enable Independence.
12. Ensure clear documentation in the patient's records of all significant consultations following Best Records Keeping Guidance.

Person Specification
Essential:
* Sound knowledge of Cancer Personalised Care and NHS Long term plan.
* Experience of data collection for audits, analysing data and delivering presentations.
* Extensive clinical experience pertinent to cancer care, oncology and/or UGI.
Skills Essential:
* NMC Level 1 Registered Nurse.
* Educated to Degree level or above.
* Breaking Bad News Training.
* Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment.
Desirable:
* Advanced Communication Skills.
* Level 2 psychological skills.
