Responsibilities & Qualifications
What awaits you:
As Government Affairs Manager in the Novelis Europe Government Affairs team, reporting to the Director, Europe Government Affairs, you will influence UK and EU legislation, regulations, and policy debates to benefit our business, build relationships with policymakers, and represent Novelis’ interests in meetings with policymakers, advocacy groups, and industry representatives, focusing on UK, UK-EU relations, and circularity/decarbonization.
The tasks in detail:
* Implement Novelis’ government affairs strategy focusing on UK affairs, UK/EU relations, and circularity/decarbonization; develop positions and policy requests aligned with business stakeholders.
* Build and expand relationships with UK stakeholders to influence legislation and policies supporting a decarbonized and circular economy, securing benefits and minimizing risks.
* Support external relations, media, and crisis communication efforts for Novelis UK; communicate policy issues and government affairs activities.
* Represent Novelis’ interests in relevant industry associations.
Frequent interactions with UK and European teams and stakeholders are essential to understand policy impacts and ensure appropriate messaging.
How you convince us:
You possess a thorough understanding of policymaking, political landscape, and market dynamics. You have a strong UK network, excel in coalition-building, and are proficient in topics like circular economy, climate, and trade. You can quickly grasp complex technical issues and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
What will you have:
* Higher education degree in public policy, political science, law, or related field.
* At least 6 years experience in public policy, legislative affairs, lobbying, or related areas, especially in recycling/sustainability.
* Strong UK contacts and knowledge of policy issues like circular economy, climate, and trade.
* Strategic thinking, relationship management skills, and success in building alliances and coalitions.
* Proactive, organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple issues simultaneously.
* Self-motivated, responsive, results-oriented, and capable of working independently and in teams.
* Native English speaker; proficiency in German, French, or Italian is a plus; excellent communication skills in writing and speaking.
