Job Purpose & Overview
As a Consultant at FAI, you will be working closely with Client Account Managers and functional leads within the business to support FAI’s strategic consultancy, research, data gathering and reporting programmes. The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team committed to improving livestock and aquaculture food system resilience through global consultancy and digital solutions for food brands and producers.
This hybrid role will involve working across both the science and technical as well as data integrity and reporting areas within the consultancy team. The science and technical function is responsible for the production of literature reviews, technical client briefings and benchmarking on areas such as animal welfare, carbon reduction, regenerative agriculture, certification standards and horizon scanning across the 3E’s (ethics, economics and environment). The data integrity and reporting function is responsible for the collection and reporting of supply chain data across our client portfolio. Data are collected on our survey, assessment and outcome measures platforms.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of livestock farming and/or food supply chains. They will responsible for following our supply chain data collection processes, data checking and analysis and the supporting data programme administration. The role will involve approximately 2 days per week working with the Data team, with the remaining 3 days per week supporting delivery within the Science and Technical Team.
The position is home based within the UK with travel as required to meet the needs of the business
Tasks
Responsibilities and Duties
As a consultant working within the FAI your role will include the following responsibilities:
* Working with Client Account Managers, researchers and other consultants to deliver consultancy services and technical expertise across FAI’s client programmes
* Responsibility for the implementation, project management and delivery of client projects.
* Participation in client, supply chain and, where applicable, farmer or other stakeholder meetings, including preparation and presentation of reports, research and where applicable use of our data tools and products.
* Desk based research and review of scientific literature.
* Preparation and delivery of technical material, sustainability reports, presentations and case studies.
* Planning, delivery and project management of R&D projects including data collection, data entry, analysis and reporting.
* Horizon scanning activities to ensure that Client Account Managers are aware of new legislation and science applicable to their client areas.
* Delivery of data collection processes, including sending out email reminders on data submissions, following up on outstanding data submissions, data integrity and accuracy checks and production of client data reports. Onboarding of new suppliers to our data platforms and provision of support and guidance documentation. Survey building, management and response tracking and general data programme administration.
* Analysis and reporting of data, including sustainability metrics and survey responses collected via FAI’s Insite tools.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
We’re keen to hear from a range of applicants who can demonstrate some, or all, of the following skills and experience:
* Knowledge of agriculture, aquaculture, farm animal welfare, or a similar related discipline, as either degree-level qualification or equivalent practical and industry experience (essential)
* Proven experience of working collaboratively with team members and partners (essential)
* Demonstrable skills in preparing and delivering high quality written work (essential)
* Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), data handling and mathematical competency (essential)
* Excellent English, both written and verbal communication skills (essential)
* Experience within food supply chains, sustainability consultancy or associated agricultural industries (desirable)
* Experienced at data visualisation and use of tools such as PowerBI (desirable)
* Experience with analytical tools such R, Minitab and SPSS (desirable)
* Knowledge of livestock production systems (desirable)

* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and develop relationships at all levels
* Able to independently deliver high quality work that aligns with FAI’s mission and business objectives

* Comfortable with working remotely and with colleagues in a variety of international locations
* Interest in sustainable livestock and aquaculture supply chains and regenerative agriculture
