What does it entail? As a Trainee Estimator at Willow Pumps, you will play a crucial role in supporting the preparation of cost estimates for projects involving pump stations, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. Working under the guidance of senior estimators and project managers, you will develop skills in evaluating project requirements, assessing materials and labour costs, and assisting in bid preparations. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career in estimating within the water and wastewater sector, contributing to essential infrastructure projects that have a significant impact on communities. Duties will include: Assist in preparing accurate cost estimates for projects, including pump station design, installation, and maintenance. Review project specifications, drawings, and other technical documents to understand the scope of work. Gather and analyse cost data for materials, equipment, and labour from suppliers and subcontractors. Support senior estimators in preparing quotations and bid submissions. Develop an understanding of different estimating techniques and software used in the sector. Assist in conducting risk assessments and value engineering exercises to optimize costs. Liaise with internal teams, including engineers, procurement, and project management, to ensure accurate cost projections. Maintain a database of cost estimates, supplier information, and historical project data for future reference. Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in pump technology. What experience do we look for? A degree, diploma, or apprenticeship in civil engineering, construction, quantity surveying, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience within construction, engineering or cost estimation through internships, placements or entry-level roles – preferred. Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Good communication and teamwork skills. Basic knowledge of the water and wastewater industry and infrastructure projects (preferred but not essential). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other estimating software (experience with estimating tools like Candy, Causeway, or CostX is beneficial).
