Job Title: Full-Time Cook Rate: £13 per hour Hours: 40 hours per week, rotational shift pattern across Monday to Sunday Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join our team in a care home setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appetizing meals for residents while ensuring food safety, hygiene, and compliance with regulations. This role is ideal for someone passionate about catering and committed to providing high-quality meals tailored to dietary needs. Key Responsibilities: Prepare, cook, and serve meals in line with set menus, catering to residents' dietary needs and preferences. Ensure all food is stored, handled, and prepared in accordance with food safety standards, including HACCP and COSHH. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen, including equipment and food storage areas. Manage stock levels, order supplies, and ensure cost-effective purchasing while achieving value for money. Control food safety hazards, monitor temperatures, and comply with health and safety regulations. Support meal planning while adapting to specific dietary requirements. Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and care home personnel to ensure smooth service. Assist in guiding and supporting residents in day-to-day activities related to food preparation, where applicable. Adapt to shift patterns and work independently when required. Requirements: Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene for Catering (Level 3 to be completed post-employment). NVQ Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality or equivalent (e.g., City and Guilds). A minimum of one year's paid experience within the past five years in a cook/catering role. Experience in meal planning and preparation following a set meal plan. Knowledge of food hygiene, storage, preparation, and health & safety procedures. Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and work efficiently under pressure. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours and shift patterns. Desirable: Experience working within a care home or with vulnerable individuals. Ability to guide residents in food preparation as part of a supportive environment.
