Teaching in mixed mother tongue classes with different language abilities Earlscliffe teachers are an integral part of a successful summer. It is often their ability to engage the students both in and out of the classroom in a fun yet professional manner that ensures students are happy and satisfied with their summer experience. The weekly rate received for Teachers is £725 PLUS any accrued holiday to be paid at the end of contract) Food and accommodation are included for all residential SBC staff. Working Hours: A normal working week for Teachers will consist of up to 48 hours per week over six working days. ABOUT EARLSCLIFFE Located less than an hour from London on the train Folkestone is a beautiful coastal town with an exciting arts scene. Since 2002, Earlscliffe has been running courses for young people from all over the world to come together to learn English in Kent, the garden of England and gain a better understanding of each other’s cultures. An open campus in Folkestones historic West End with a mixture of beautiful traditional and newly refurbished boarding houses and classrooms Earlscliffe is ideally placed within a five minute walk of beautiful pebble beaches. Our courses at Earlscliffe strike the balance between serious study, fun activities and ‘added value’. We focus on delivering high-quality programmes in only one school where we have full control of all aspects of the course. Basing our curriculum on the 21st century learning skills of collaboration, critical thinking, communication and creativity, our students are motivated and stimulated not only by the course content but its relevance to their generation’s aims and concerns. General Duties: Be committed to the safeguarding and welfare of students in your care Adhere to all Health and Safety measures (including COVID safety measures, risk assessments and other policies and procedures) Help ensure that the students do not breach the rules of the school Always engage with the students in a friendly but professional manner Assist at any time, whether on duty or not, in an emergency situation Provide feedback on your experiences during & also at the end of summer Help ensure that the students do not breach the rules of the school Teaching Duties Become familiar with the Earlscliffe syllabus, materials and resources for their specific subjects during induction period Teach lessons using the Earlscliffe syllabus and other appropriate materials Promote a student-centred learning environment, which encourages the development of 21st century skills Set assignments, if outlined and prescribed in the Earlscliffe syllabus Attend to the individual needs of the students to ensure that maximum benefit is gained from their particular course Continuously assess students’ progress, marking assignments meaningfully and giving relevant feedback Maintain administrative systems by preparing and keeping class lists, records of work, class registers and preparing certificates and reports Manage the classroom behaviour effectively and ensure all students participate Attend morning meetings with the Director of Studies, and as requested by the summer school management Write lesson plans for Observations, write a reflection of the Observed lesson, attend a feedback session with the Director of Studies to discuss Action Points About You All members of staff employed by Earlscliffe will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the operation. There must be a professional interest in working with young people and particularly international children. As a part of Dukes Education we also have links to many other schools which occasionally offer up employment opportunities to our staff. Whilst international travel restrictions have been in place, we have worked closely with a number of boarding schools to provide holiday courses for their students who have been unable to return home. We look forward to utilising this experience to provide a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience for all of our students and staff in the coming year.
