What you’ll be doing
This role will offer you the opportunity to work with and support our lawyers in the Tax and Succession sub-team within Tozers’ Wealth Management Team. You will have the opportunity to develop and hone your drafting, client management, and research skills, all of which will serve you very well within your ongoing legal career. You will also develop a much sought-after understanding of the foundations of Inheritance Tax and Succession planning within the Private Client sphere with the opportunity to assist with files involving the more complex elements of Business Relief and generational planning.
Under supervision, you will undertake the tasks delegated to you by the lawyers you work with. These tasks might include:
* assisting generally in the progress of trust creation, Wills and tax & succession matters,
* undertaking legal research and presenting your findings for your team’s use,
* preparing first draft letters of advice,
* notetaking during complex and lengthy meetings,
* contact with clients and third parties by telephone and in person,
* drafting letters and emails to clients and third parties.
When needed, your responsibilities will also include assisting our legal support team with the administrative elements of your lawyers’ caseloads such as diary management, document management, and opening matters in our case management system.
Working alongside the lawyers and assistants in your team, you will receive ongoing, practical training on the job to help you to continue to develop and become confident in this area of legal work. Those who excel may also have the opportunity to continue their career development within the team should circumstances allow.
What we’re looking for
We are open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. You may already be a paralegal looking for a greater level of responsibility or an experienced Wills and Probate Legal Secretary or Assistant looking to develop into the next challenge. Perhaps you have recently completed your academic studies and wish to build a challenging and rewarding legal career.
You will be highly organised and will have a disciplined approach to work. You will be precise and careful in your use of language and eager to build your professional drafting skills.
What you’ll have
You will have a ‘can-do’ attitude and will be happy to adapt to the requirements of the tasks facing you – from large to small. You will be able to take a calm and sympathetic approach to direct contact with clients and their families.
You will be calm under pressure with the ability to keep many plates spinning at the same time. You will be detail-oriented and will have the confidence to give your input to the lawyers around you to help them to move matters forward accurately and efficiently.
An ability to work closely with team members and a willingness to work as part of a team with the aim of achieving a common goal is crucial. You will also be able to balance a variety of responsibilities and be able to manage your time and workload efficiently. An aptitude for maintaining a calm approach to work within a busy working environment will be very helpful as will the ability to communicate effectively with both colleagues and clients.
