The Role
The Ships Second Engineer has responsibility for taking all necessary actions for safety, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of the ship under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe operation and maintenance of the ship’s machinery.
2. Maintenance of Engine Room safety equipment.
3. Deputise for Chief Engineer as required, testing stand-by systems on a regular basis and in accordance with Company and regulatory procedures.
4. Bunker operations with Chief Engineer.
5. Maintenance of Counter Pollution and Deck equipment as appropriate.
6. Engine room watch keeper, investigating non-conformances and applying corrective action as agreed with the Master.
7. Comply with pollution prevention requirements.
8. Operate and deploy counter pollution equipment as required.
9. Form part of the vessel's Emergency team.
10. Organise and manage seamen when working in the Engine room.
11. Maintain Oil record book and Engine room log book.
12. Maintain inventory of Mechanical spares.
