Matchtech is recruiting for a permanent opportunity for a Civil Engineer with UK Railway experience to relocate to Toronto. This role does require permanent relocation.
Civil Engineer-Rail & Transit
Our office in Toronto is seeking a Civil Engineer-Rail to join our Toronto team.
This position involves working on civil designs for rail projects (High Speed, Metro, LRT, streetcars) in the Toronto office.
What will your duties be?
1. Assist Design Manager in all tasks related to the development of construction documents required for the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel Project.
2. Monitor Design Schedule, track deliverable dates, and prepare look-ahead schedule for distribution.
3. Assist discipline leads to identify design issues and prepare RFIs to send to the client as required.
4. Manage Design Subconsultant agreements, deliverables, and invoicing process.
5. Track all project-associated costs related to design hours progress tracking and estimating.
6. Work with Discipline Leads to ensure that design solutions are fully coordinated with other disciplines and contract requirements by chairing meetings, preparing sketches, and tracking deliverables.
7. Work with BIM and CAD personnel to develop drawings, sketches, and support documents when required.
8. Track and monitor design interfaces – internal, external with client, and external with third parties.
9. Review all contract requirements and ensure compliance.
10. Participate in Change Management process and assist Commercial Manager when required.
11. Design issues tracking and issues resolution.
12. Liaise with Project Document Control Manager and ensure procedures are being adhered to and key documents uploaded to client are compliant.
13. Review project and company procedures for design quality management and track performance.
14. Position requires attendance at internal and external meetings and keeping meeting minute records.
15. Candidate should generally be familiar with local design codes, drawing preparation standards, etc.
16. Research into available design standards, requirements, literature to support design decision-making.
What do you need to fit the position?
1. 5-8 years’ experience as a Civil Engineer, including alignment (mandatory).
2. Some experience as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager is an asset.
3. Must have experience in detailed design coordination.
4. PMP training is an asset.
5. High skills in Inroads or Power Rail Track are mandatory.
6. Sound technical/business judgment in the evaluation, organization, management, and experience of design activities.
7. Able to develop plans, specifications, technical notes & calculations, etc., with minimal supervision.
8. Ability to develop non-standard solutions.
9. Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team.
10. Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
11. Ability to communicate effectively with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, partners, contractors, etc.
12. Willingness to learn, develop, and apply new techniques, standards, and processes.
13. Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.
14. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
15. Excellent analytical and technical writing skills, excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
16. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is critical.
