• Work Pattern: Tuesday and Thursday (12:00 – 18:00). The day will start, and finish at the Client’s home address, using the client's own wheelchair-adapted vehicle to provide the transport. There is the potential to increase hours to 23 hours a week in total.

Introduction:
A Direct Payments recipient in Pembrokeshire who has Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy, is partially sighted, and also has epilepsy is looking to employ a Personal assistants to provide their support, two days a week for companionship, and to take out to places of interest within their community. She enjoys shopping, listening to music, trips to McDonalds and going to the beach/ seaside.
She does not require personal care as she cannot weight bear, and manages with pads. All personal care needs are met by parents before and after socialisation.
This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.
The main duties to be included within this role are to:
• Support them to feel safe and confident when accessing their community, and at home.
• Provide a safe supervised environment to enable her to be as free from risk of harm or neglect.
• Enable her to socialise outside of the family support, to meet new people and be involved in group services, and to build new friendships.
• She will require assistance with all meals, as she has no fine motor skills, but is able to feed herself with a spoon. Enjoys a MacDonalds in her car using a tray fitted to her wheelchair.
• Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person.
• To provide companionship outside of her home
• Support the person to access activities of importance.
• Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.
• Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction.
• Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours.
• Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours. e.g. Being conversant with safety issues using a WAV with a wheelchair user.
• Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
• Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.
The client is looking for a Personal Assistant that fits the following person specification:
• Responsible and honest
• Proactive and self-motivated
• Has good local knowledge
• Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
• Good communicator
• Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship
Other Requirements:
A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required. Use of a WAV car is provided from the Client’s home address.
Insurance will be provided under the Motability scheme, whilst using the WAV in support of the client. Breakdown cover is also provided by the Motability scheme.
