CANDIDATE PROFILE

We require a Data Protection Support Officer to support our continued growth. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and work in a structured manner. You will be responsible for ensuring that responses to data subject requests and other data protection enquiries through the advice line are timely, accurate, and thorough, meeting our clients' needs and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation.
In this role, you will manage a portfolio of clients, navigating conflicting client needs diplomatically while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Your work will involve assisting with Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), School Audits, Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs), Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and other related tasks. Each project will be supported by an experienced Data Protection Officer from our team, providing learning and development opportunities.
We seek candidates who value attention to detail and consistently deliver high-quality work within agreed timescales. You must have the capacity to work independently but also be confident enough to escalate concerns when appropriate. This role is based in our Ipswich office, with a balance of hybrid working.
Successful candidates will be proactive and capable of managing a diverse range of data protection responsibilities while contributing to the continued success and growth of The DPO Centre.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Supporting the full life cycle of DSAR requests
* Informing and advising organisations of their obligations
* Ensuring all assigned DSARs are completed within agreed timeframes
* Applying appropriate redactions/exemptions as outlined in the Data Protection Act
* Managing client expectations and liaising with third parties like the ICO (supported by a DPO where required)
* Managing and maintaining a DSAR log
* Producing reports and information summaries on completed DSARs
* Keeping up to date with changes in data protection law and regulations
* Actively contributing to building the overall knowledge base of the DPO Centre’s team
* Supporting the development of DPO Centre’s internal processes to streamline service delivery
* Working with an ever more prestigious portfolio of clients
* Developing sector-specific expertise and becoming an expert in the field

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education and experience
* Knowledge and experience of fulfilling DSAR requests
* Ideally, a data protection qualification or experience in the sector.

* Ability to work independently yet also be a strong team player
* Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
* Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, trust, and credibility

Required skills
* A solid knowledge of the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
* Extensive experience dealing with the full lifecycle of SAR requests.
* An ability to think logically and strategically.
* Attention to detail and analytical skills
* Sufficient commercial awareness to understand, manage, and navigate client expectations
* Project management skills to successfully manage and prioritise multiple DSARs
* Excellent communicator with the ability to deliver a clear message to a variety of audiences
* Ability to excel under pressure when working to tight deadlines
Desired Skills
* Knowledge of video editing and document redaction tools
* Written and spoken EU language skills
* Sector-specific knowledge e.g. FOI, DSPT, FSA etc
* Negotiation skills to ensure the most appropriate course of action is taken
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
* £30,000+ per annum, depending on experience.
