The successful applicant will join an established team that continues to excel in the sector and will provide input and support on a wide range of interesting and challenging projects including new and innovative technologies.
The successful applicant will work independently and within a team to deliver projects. You will lead the delivery of projects in the UK, Europe, Africa and other global regions reporting to the internal Project Director. Opportunities will be provided to allow you to act as a project manager, write proposals and manage clients and the interface with clients and contractors.
SLR has a real in-depth understanding of anaerobic digestion / biogas / biomethane projects, and the challenges our clients face, delivering real change in an expanding and sustainable industrial sector. We are logical thinkers with the capability to look at problems from various angles and come up with innovative, practical, cost-effective solutions. You will form a key part of the team and help build data and information into knowledge and understanding.
Our Engineering service line has expertise across a range of engineering sectors including process, civil, geotechnical, transport, chemical, materials, and mechanical engineering, with particular expertise in renewable energy, solid waste management/treatment and industrial wastewater and technologies. We work with many other disciplines across SLR and on different projects in terms of their length and complexity. We provide clients with expertise at all stages of a project from concept designs to commissioning and testing and on to performance improvement and optimisation.
The Process Engineering team provides clients with expertise at all project stages, including:
* Feasibility studies;
* Front End Engineering and Concept Design Studies;
* Process Design Review and Optimisation;
* Lifecycle carbon assessment;
* Owners Engineer / Lenders Technical Advisor;
* Commissioning and Performance Testing.
About the role:
The role will be primarily focused on providing our clients with support on anaerobic digestion projects. Projects will involve a wide range of AD technologies including wet and dry AD, biogas upgrading to biomethane, and carbon capture. Our projects involve us leading and supporting other specialists on a range of projects both in the UK and overseas.
You will work with others in the process engineering team and other disciplines across the business including the Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water and Environmental Specialist Services Groups on a wide variety of different projects. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Lead the provision of technical input and support on anaerobic digestion projects across the life of a project;
* Lead the review of third-party designs, technical proposals and operational models and writing technical due diligence reports for funders;
* Preparing technical and procurement documentation and schematics/drawings;
* Leading the preparation of models to determine plant energy and mass balances, emission rates and financial/operational models including thermodynamic calculations and basic financial metrics;
* Manage staff who will undertake on-site inspection, witnessing, verification and supervision of construction, commissioning, and testing projects and troubleshooting of operational plant including waste and recycling operations (thermal, mechanical, biological) and other renewable energy and sustainability-based projects;
* Assisting other teams within SLR with technical and process engineering aspects of diverse projects.

In order to succeed, we would envisage that you would be able to bring/demonstrate:
Essential:
* Degree in Engineering or similar subject;
* Experience in process engineering projects, preferably in a consultancy environment;
* Project Management experience;
* Numerate and confident with data, basic modelling with excellent report writing skills and IT literate, particularly with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
* Must be able to work independently and within a team;
* Well organised and logical thinker, friendly and outgoing with good communication skills;
* Full, current, clean driving licence with ability to travel.
Desirable:
* Masters degree;
* Chartered Engineer (or working towards a professional qualification or membership of a professional body);
