Senior Legal Counsel - Procurement
Location: Surrey, KT13 0SL
Hours of work: 37.5
Contract Type: Permanent
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Senior Legal Counsel to provide legal support to the UK & Ireland’s Supply Chain and Procurement (SC&P) function.
The SC&P function spans four key categories: hard FM, food, catering and waste services, indirect services (including temporary labour, cleaning, laundry, IT, landscaping, and office-related facilities such as mailroom and AV), and fleet and travel.
Job Description
In this role, you will work closely with the commercial legal team and SC&P across all stages of a transaction's lifecycle, including bid preparation, negotiation, business-as-usual support, and exit or termination.
This is a busy and diverse role, primarily focused on procurement contracts across a range of sectors, including banking, office, and production environments.
You will be exposed to a variety of contracts, making the role both challenging and rewarding.
While ISS operates as a large, global organisation, we pride ourselves on fostering a people-first culture where individuals are valued, and you are never just a number.
Flexibility and trust are at the core of this role. We understand the importance of balancing a busy career with personal responsibilities, and we encourage you to have a life outside of work.
Whether you are managing family commitments or pursuing personal interests, this role offers the flexibility and support you need to succeed.
Join a team where your contributions will be valued, and your professional and personal growth will be prioritised.
Key Responsibilities
* Negotiating and advising on commercial agreements with suppliers, including the supply of goods and services, equipment hire, IT contracts, and others
* Drafting and negotiating subcontractor agreements and flow-down terms
* Providing direct support to the SC&P Director and the Procurement Leadership Team on strategic decisions and various issues
* Assisting the business in disputes with clients or suppliers and engaging external counsel when necessary
* Advising on legal developments and their implications for the business
* Supporting the Procurement Excellence team on supplier assurance matters
* Maintaining and updating standard supplier contract terms
* Providing legal support to the Central Leadership Team on ad hoc legal queries or workgroups
* Assisting central functions, such as Tax, People & Culture, IT, H&S, and Operations Performance (third-party safety)
* Collaborating with ISS Group Legal on global deals with a UK perspective
* Advising stakeholders on the rollout of new products or solutions, especially those involving third-party solutions
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
* Advising and negotiating on complex supply contracts, and other commercial contracts, so a deep knowledge of contract law is necessary
* Solid knowledge of these areas of law: data protection in commercial transactions, competition law, TUPE and intellectual property rights issues
* IT and technology contracts (SaaS, app and product development, licensing arrangements)
* Knowledge of the legal implications of off-payroll workers (agency, consultants, umbrella) desirable, but not necessary
