SRUC Veterinary Services supports animal health and welfare through disease surveillance funded by the Scottish Government. We provide a post mortem service for livestock keepers in Scotland. We monitor changing disease trends and provide updates and knowledge exchange for farmers and vets in practice. Our hubs and post mortem facilities provide veterinary and scientific support and expertise from seven centres in Scotland alongside the Veterinary and Analytical Laboratory at Pentlands Science Park.
We service a range of clients including small and large animal vet practices, pharmaceutical companies, the agricultural industry, and livestock keepers. The laboratory tests over one million animal and material samples each year from the UK and international clients.
The Opportunity:
An exciting position has arisen for a Laboratory Scientist with a background in Serology to work within SRUC’s Veterinary Services group, based in Central Analytical Laboratory at the Pentland Science Park near Penicuik. The main purpose of the role is the testing of samples submitted for serological analysis using ELISA.
* Preparing and testing ruminant blood, tissue and faecal samples mainly by ELISA,
* Reviewing quality control data
* Reporting results in LIMS
* Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment
* Selection and procurement of lab equipment and consumables
* Support staff training, supervision and deputising for the Senior Laboratory Scientist
* To help maintain the current UKAS accreditation status of the laboratory including internal and external quality assessment exercises
* Assist in complying with current health and safety procedures and enhancing the health and safety culture of the laboratory
The post holder must always be able to multi-task and use their initiative in the conduct of their work. They must be able to apply sound judgement to ensure that they conduct themselves within the framework of SRUC regulations and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates should possess previous experience of working in an accredited laboratory and be educated to SCQF Level 9 or above in Biological sciences or other relevant subject.

This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. If you are a migrant worker you will need to ensure you have an appropriate visa to evidence the necessary right to work in the UK.
