Job summary Epsom and St Helier Hospitals have an exciting opportunity that has arisen for a registered nurse with a keen interest and passion in the field of Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) / Gastroenterology to join the St Helier Hospital team delivering care to patients with IBD. You will have the support of the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists as well as that wider clinical team to help underpin your practice. Regular in-house teaching and appropriate external conferences also support essential knowledge in this fast moving field. This is an ideal opportunity for a nurse with keen interest to develop within this field as newly appointed clinical nurse specialist, and this is a interesting and varied role in which involves face to face and remote care primarily in the management of medications and patients symptoms in line with specialist immunological therapies. The post holder will provide specialist nursing care to patients and their families, and act as a resource for other professionals. This is achieved by skills and experience and expert knowledge. Working with the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will play a key role within the team, by acting as a source of knowledge for both patients and health care professionals and being able to implement clinical guidelines and standards. Main duties of the job You will be expected to work towards achieving an advanced level of practice and support the senior IBD CNSs within the team: Assist the Clinical Nurse Specialist in IBD in the coordination of care for patients at the Trust. Support the review of patients by undertaking assessment of patients which may include physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or advanced health needs assessment on an inpatient and out-patient basis Become an educational resource for patients and their families sign posting to specialist advice and education on IBD management. To provide the administration and close monitoring for all patients receiving long term drug treatment, including anti-TNF. To participate in urgent helpline services for IBD patients and participate and promote IBD patient panel team. To participate and contribute to IBD biologic and benign MDT.
