Reporting to the VP Digital Enterprise and part of the global Abcam Digital Department, the Director of Cybersecurity leads and oversees all aspects of the organization's information security strategy, ensuring that critical systems and assets are protected and secured. Cybersecurity risks are identified, assessed, managed, and communicated transparently with senior leadership. This role requires a strong leadership presence, a deep understanding of IT Security, regulatory compliance, and expertise in both technical and strategic security measures.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
1. Develop Abcam’s information security strategy and programme aligned with the company’s business priorities and the Danaher Corporate imperatives to mature core security capabilities.
2. Ensure that Cyber Security controls remain appropriate and proportionate to the assessed risks, overseeing cyber risk management and threat detection to minimize exposure and attack surface.
3. Ensure Abcam maintains the ability to detect and respond to cyber-attacks and that cybersecurity incidents and breaches are investigated appropriately, managed, and escalated as required.
4. Develop and maintain partnerships with Abcam business leadership, and close working relationships with Abcam technology teams, legal, HR departments, wider business, and Danaher Corporate IT and Security teams.
5. Advocate for security at the leadership level, influence key technology decisions, and provide regular updates on the status of the information security program to Abcam Digital leadership and Abcam L1.
6. Act as a trusted SME advisor fostering a culture of security awareness throughout the company.
7. Mentor and develop a high-performance security team ensuring effective Abcam security operations and compliance effort, setting annual performance and development goals and reviews.
The essential requirements of the job include:
1. Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or equivalent professional experience.
2. Solid experience working in IT and security roles and previous leadership experience.
3. Demonstrates comprehensive and in-depth understanding of technology, security, and risk management (security architecture including cloud, data protection, security operations, vulnerability management, and security governance risk and compliance).
4. Experience managing and collaborating with global teams.
5. Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
6. Strong communication & advisory skills, effective in relaying complex or technical concepts to diverse audiences.
7. Able to instill integrity, high morale, high-performance team culture and leads by example.
