The Role of a Business Development Manager
As a Business Development Manager, youll be responsible for driving new business opportunities and developing long-term strategic relationships with clients across various industries. You will identify prospects, create tailored solutions, and ensure a seamless onboarding process in collaboration with internal operations teams.
This is a consultative sales role that requires a hunter mindset, a strong understanding of freight and logistics, and a passion for delivering value to clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify and target new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and market research.
* Build a pipeline of qualified leads and convert them into long-term clients.
* Conduct client meetings, understand supply chain needs, and propose tailored logistics solutions.
* Collaborate closely with operations, pricing, and account management teams to ensure smooth client onboarding and delivery.
* Prepare and present proposals, quotes, and tender documents.
* Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking events to enhance brand visibility.
* Maintain accurate CRM records and deliver regular performance reporting.
* Work toward and exceed monthly/quarterly revenue and margin targets.
Requirements
* Proven track record in B2B sales, ideally within freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain.
* At least three years experience selling air, sea, and/or road freight services is required for this role.
* Commercially astute, target-driven, and self-motivated.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
* Strong understanding of global trade and supply chain challenges.
* Full UK driving license and willingness to travel as needed.
